But, with Andrew Bynum expected to make a return to the team near the all-star break, it’ll be easier said than done.

Which means the Raptors can definitely move ahead of them. The Sixers currently have a record of 19-26 and are 3.5 games ahead of the Raptors. They’re currently sitting at 22-23, and sit a comfortable 6.5 games ahead of the Raptors. Plus, look at the Celtics and Sixers, who are still ahead of the Raptors.Įven without Rondo, the Celtics are still a playoff team. There’s a good chance that OKC gets our pick this season, which means the team technically could still tank in 2014 if Colangelo is let go. No playoffs, possibly until next season.īut, I’m not necessarily worried about this one as much. All they needed to do was tank in 2014 and maybe in 2015 and then they may have had something legitimate to build around. The team had a solid young core of players to build around in Ross, Fields, Davis and Valanciunas. Now, the team traded what was one of its better prospects for short-term gain that will likely not even pay off. Bryan Colangelo never gave Davis the same chance he gave Bargnani or DeRozan, which is a shame, because he is a much better player.

Let me tell you, I think he will blossom as a full time starting forward somewhere. If the only goal of the organization is to make the playoffs as a bottom seed and turn a profit, then the team needs better owners, plain and simple. So, basically, the Raptors are paying a whole lot of money for a second round playoff team at best.

I wouldn’t bet on this team ever making it past the second round of the playoffs. If you think trading for Rudy Gay gives the Raptors any chance of beating a team like Miami, Oklahoma City, etc, well then you will be disappointed. So, good luck with this one Casey, I think you’ll need it with this non-defensive group.Įven with Gay, DeRozan, Valanciunas, Ross, Lowry, etc locked up long term, I cannot stress enough about the ceiling of this team. Oh yeah, I haven’t even got to how bad those three will likely be defensively. You have three players who don’t pass, and don’t move well without the ball. I can only hope that I am wrong, but I do not see these three players (who NEED the ball in their hands to be effective) working well together on offense. On paper, this lineup does not look good offensively at all. Here you have three players on the starting lineup which could be the most overpaid, over rated, and under achieving three players on a starting lineup since, well, ever. Now, in all seriousness, let’s make this easy and simply take a look at reasons why I think this was a bad trade. You didn’t think I was serious, did you? There aren’t any good reasons for the Raptors to do this trade. I’ll start off with the reasons that this was a good trade for the Raptors. This is the type of short sighted move that I was afraid a desperate GM would make happen. To Memphis: Ed Davis, Tayshaun Prince, Austin Daye, 2nd Round Pick
